Amblimation is the animation production arm of Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment that has been active since 1986. Founded in 1984 and originally comprised of select animation staff from Sullivan Bluth Studios, it was Steven Spielberg's goal to produce animation from the ground up. Fievel Mousekewitz from An American Tail is the company's mascot and has appeared in the production logo. He is later accompanied by Tanya and Tiger in 2008, and joined by Itchy Itchiford from All Dogs Go to Heaven in 2014.
Many of their animated features include lavish hand-drawn animation, well-written stories and TBD.
List of films[]
The studio's output contains examples of:[]
- 2D Visuals, 3D Effects: TBD.
- Animation Bump: All of their animated feature films are produced in amazing qualities, but there are some characters and sequences that have much wider-scale animation than the rest (TBD).
- Art Shift:
- TBD
- Cerebus Rollercoaster: Since their first film, the studio has released animated films that jump back and forth through different tones. Take their 2018 films for example. In order, there was 1) Larrikins: A lighthearted musical about a bilby who goes on a journey across the Australian outback; 2) The House with a Clock in its Walls: a dark and creepy story that centers upon a clock that could destroy the fate of the world; and 3) Rise of the Guardians: Season Two: While it does have a somewhat serious tone, it can get very silly when it wants to. (thanks to it's two directors)
- Creator Cameo: Steven Spielberg (who is the founder and executive producer) makes cameo appearances in some of the studio's animated features.
- Deranged Animation: The staff on each of these movies mainly comprised of animators who had worked with other studios, resulting in a delightfully bizarre hybrid of subtle character acting and wacky cartoon hijinks.
- Reused Character Design: As mentioned above, since a lot of the animators at Amblimation previously worked with other studios, there is some obvious influence in a lot of the designs.
- Scenery Porn: A lot of effort was put into the backgrounds of their films.
